How Patient Advocates can make the most of Awareness Holidays

Raising awareness about a disease or health concern can be an excellent means to foster an appreciation for patients and families, encourage donations to research, or even education about preventative measures. Awareness holidays offer major opportunities to get the word out about a specific disease or overall community. Patient advocates can take advantage of this larger platform to share their personal stories and have an even greater impact on the communities they represent. Below are a few tips on how to prepare for and capitalize on awareness holidays!

Hospitals are collaborating with health organizations to help provide credible information online. Patients have become influencers, using their health experiences and expertise to shift old-fashioned views and co-design new care models that are in alignment with their utmost needs. But where does Pharma fit in this new digital age of healthcare?

This year at ePharma 2017, an annual conference where global leaders in digital and pharmaceutical marketing come together to develop innovative strategies in healthcare, the main theme focused primarily on various perspectives showcasing connected health aiming to center patient-centric care during its three-day event.

How Do We Select The WEGO Health Award Winners?

With the 6th Annual WEGO Health Awards in full swing, we’re gearing up for our judging phase. The three rounds of judging will ultimately lead us to our 16 WEGO Health Award Winners who will be announced during our virtual WEGO Health Awards Ceremony October 11th – 13th, 2017.

This year, the WEGO Health Award Winners will be invited to a live WEGO Health Awards Dinner at the 5th Annual Patient Advocacy Summit October 23rd, 2017!

Don’t forget! WEGO Health has a discount code for the Summit. When completing your registration use the code “WH200” for a $200 discount off of your registration! We’d love to see you there.

Semifinalist Judging Rounds

Once endorsements close on September 1st, 2017, we’ll assess each of the WEGO Health Award categories and identify the top three endorsed nominees. These individuals become automatic finalists within their respective categories.

To round out the top five finalists within each category, we will immediately begin the semifinalist judging rounds.

During these two rounds, our judging panel (made up of industry players and Patient Leader Network members just like you) will review all of the nominees within each of the 16 WEGO Health Award categories. Casting their votes, two final nominees within each category will be selected.

Reviewing all of the 2300+ nominations takes a lot of time and effort, so these judges definitely have their work cut out for them!

Finalist Judging Round

Once the top five nominees in each of the 16 WEGO Health Award categories are selected, we will announce the finalists on our social channels. You can expect these to be announced the week of September 25th, 2017.

From September 25th until October 6th, we’ll turn to our distinguished judging panel to help us select the winners of this year’s WEGO Health Awards. This year our panel is made up a diverse group from partners like IBM Watson Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Takeda, Tonic Life Communications and many others. We definitely suggest you go and take a look at this year’s judges – it’s an impressive panel!

These judges will review the top five finalists within each category and score each finalist within three categories:  fit for the award category, their use of social media, and their focus on sharing information and engaging with their followers and community.

Once the judge’s scorecards are in, we’ll tabulate the results and will announce our winners during the WEGO Health Awards Virtual Ceremony October 11th – 13th, 2017. During these three days of festivities, you can except twitter chats, live ceremonies to give way the WEGO Health Awards and more! Make sure to join our Thunderclap campaign to help kick off the celebration.

Our judging process has been carefully crafted over the years, taking notes and advice from our Patient Leader Network along the way. Between the endorsements, which allows us to have a “people’s choice” aspect, and the judging rounds, which allows each of the nominees to be reviewed for content and work, we believe our WEGO Health Awards select the best of the best each year.

Who will win this year?

You’ll just have to hold tight and wait and see.

We’re just as anxious as you are!
