Looking to better understand how you can fight racism and disparities within the health space?
In this webinar replay, hosted by patient leader Monique Gore-Massy, you’ll gain a historical perspective on how current gaps in the US healthcare system came to exist. More importantly, you’ll walk away with actionable items for how you can continue to advocate for health equity, increased representation, and culturally-competent resources within your health communities.
If you’re ready to be an active ally for BIPOC patients and caregivers, don’t miss this important conversation.
✅ Lean into the discomfort | Navigating the conversation of health equity, health disparities, and racism can feel overwhelming and flat out uncomfortable. The reality is, the only way to find a true solution is if we all lean in and feel the discomfort. It’s once we lean in to that discomfort that we activate change.
✅ Be everyone’s advocate | As patient leaders, we pride ourselves on the support and hope we provide our communities. However, if we truly are an advocate, we must advocate for all members of our community. This requires us to educate ourselves and speak to all members of our community.
✅ Don’t be afraid to ask | While it’s important to do your own due diligence, don’t hesitate to simply reach out and ask the experiences of BIPOC patients and members in your community. At the end of the day, this isn’t a political issue – this is a human issue. Simply asking and listening to those who may look different than us is a great place to start.
✅ Small acts make a big impact| Unfortunately, systemic racism is so deep and complex that it can hard to tell if your actions are making an impact. It’s key to set measurable goals to really see the progress. Patient leaders may consider setting a goal to include 5 more diverse patient stories in their social feeds each month, or set the goal to include 2-3 diverse patients on a patient advisory board for more accurate representation of their community.
