In honor of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, we’re introducing you to three fantastic MS Patient Leaders!
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. You can learn more about MS here, or by connecting with any of the three Patient Leaders below.

“My advocacy mission is to help people with MS and other chronic illnesses appreciate the above and find a giggle whenever possible! Immediately following my diagnosis in December of 2009 I realized that having a sense of humor would keep me sane on the insane journey that is life with multiple sclerosis. Since that time, science has proven my realization. Laughter triggers endorphins which lower pain, strengthens resilience, eases anxiety and relieves stress. Additionally, laughter decreases cortisol which leads to improved memory and a lowering of the risk of cardiovascular disease. “

“When I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis five years ago, everything I read online was depressing and negative. A medical professional close to me told me, “This is a good time to be diagnosed with MS as there is a lot of research and treatment happening now.” I decided to start the website moderndayms.com as a positive, safe place to learn about symptoms, new medications find neurologists, natural therapies and get to know Real People with MS that are living full and active lives. I am grateful for the many smart, interesting and strong people around the world I’ve had the opportunity to connect with.”

“When I was diagnosed with MS in 2008 there was very little information online. I made it my mission to change that. I started a blog to share my MS journey and connect with others. I now enjoy being active in the online community sharing my active life working full time as an oncology social worker, traveling, fundraising and advocating. Life with MS has not stopped be from doing the many things I love and by sharing that in my online communities I can provide hope to others, especially people who are newly diagnosed. The face of MS certainly has changed over the years and I hope that by spreading awareness I’ve helped to show people that MS is not a death sentence. I’m living my best life!”
