Words I Wheel By was one of our partners for the Fourth Annual Health Activist Awards.
Emily, a Disability Health Activist, wrote a post on Disability.gov about her struggle between advocacy and life beyond her wheelchair.
While my reality is one that I don’t always love, it’s one that I unwaveringly embrace. Now, I’ll still be the first person to tell you that I am so much more than just a woman who uses a wheelchair, because it’s true. I’m also a daughter, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin, a friend, a student, an advocate, a writer…the list goes on. But I can proudly proclaim that interwoven into all these facets of my identity is my disability, forever shaping how I live my life and who I am.”
