WEGO HEALTH TO SPONSOR NING HEALTH NETWORKS

Partnership with WEGO Health will provide health-related communities with Ning Plus service

PALO ALTO, CA and BOSTON, MA – July 19, 2010 – Ning, the leading platform for creating your own social network, today announced a partnership with WEGO Health which will provide Ning Plus service to the many health-related Ning Networks for free for one year. WEGO Health, a social network for Health Activists who are passionate about health conditions, has a mission to inspire conversations around health topics, provide rich resources and create community for those needing support. This partnership will enable these important online health conversations to continue and prosper for an estimated 1 million current network members.

This collaboration marks Ning’s latest effort to bring real value to its customers through category-specific sponsorships and revenue offerings. Recently, Ning announced a similar sponsorship relationship with Pearson Publishing, benefiting education-focused Ning Networks, along with monetization partnerships from CaféPress and HeyZap for all Network Creators.

“Our health Ning Networks offer members community support, the ability to forge deep relationships with others facing similar health challenges, and access to critical information and resources,” said Ning CEO Jason Rosenthal. “With WEGO Health’s mission to empower Health Activists who lead conversations, build community and engage through social technology, they are a great partner to power Ning Health Networks.”

“I’m a member of WEGO Health’s network of Health Activists, and it’s been a great way to connect with and learn from other people like me, who build health communities,” said Ade Adeyokunnu. “I started People Living with Sickle Cell on Ning two years ago to give sickle cell disease patients and caregivers a place to meet and talk about what we’re all going through, so I’m really glad they’ll be able to continue to grow and thrive on Ning.”

WEGO Health is a community of passionate leaders in health social media, known as Health Activists; these online leaders moderate online forums, write health blogs, run Facebook health groups, tweet to masses, and generally show a passion for helping people with their health issues online.

“Since its inception, WEGO Health has been dedicated to empowering Health Activists to lead active health conversation on the web,” said CEO Jack Barrette. “The health networks built on Ning are a powerful example of Health Activists at work, and we’re thrilled to be able to extend our mission through this sponsorship. We look forward to collaborating with health-focused Ning Network Creators to expand their reach and impact.”

WEGO Health will sponsor Ning Plus service for any health-related Ning Network, which includes unlimited membership, full branding control, and the ability to create groups, chats, and events. In addition, recipients will have full access to WEGO Health’s community of Health Activists and support for developing and extending their Network’s reach and impact at no cost. WEGO Health’s sponsorship of Network costs will extend for one year, during which time WEGO Health will work with other industry leaders to fund the expansion and extension of this sponsorship.
