Amy Brock
Neda Afsarmanesh, MS
Neda's fascination with the brain led her to study neuroscience, most recently focusing on autism. She graduated with a BS from the California Institute of Technology and a MA from Boston University School of Medicine. Though she values scientific research, she realizes that there needs to be better communication between scientists and the general public, and this is where her new passion lies. Neda enjoys visiting science museums, reading novels, and endless hours laughing with friends.

Amy has more than 12 years of research experience working at the interface of the biological sciences, bioengineering, and computational biology. Trained at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, Amy holds a BS and PhD in Biomedical Science. She is passionate about bridging the communication gaps between medical researchers, practitioners and patients. Amy enjoys diving, hiking, reading thick books and can recite entire Dr Seuss books from memory.
Jen Cochran
Jen Cochran, BS
Jen's broad science experience includes research on lemon sharks, cichlids in Belize, and the Mississippi River. After receiving her BS in Biology from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, Jen earned a MS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Texas A&M University, where she instructed undergraduate biology labs. Since, she has contributed to both scientific literature and government reports as a biological writer for the US Geological Survey. Jennifer currently resides with her fiance in southeast Minnesota, and loves cycling in and around the Mississippi River Valley.
Jodi Cornell
Jodi Cornell, MA, MSW
Jodi has extensive research experience in health and risk behaviors. Her recent research includes writing chapters for the National Academies Institute of Medicine on the relationship between adolescent risk perceptions, tobacco use, and the media, and articles on adolescent sexual risk taking behavior. Jodi holds a MA in Psychological Research Design and Methods from San Francisco State University, a MSW from the University of Hawaii, and a BA in Psychology from Hawaii Pacific University. She enjoys cool special effects in sci-fi movies and delicious food.
Amanda Dameron
Amanda Dameron, MS
Amanda has worked in many areas of health care, from counseling patients at the Cleveland Free Clinic to helping community organizations implement strategies to help reduce childhood obesity. She spent several years working in disease management interventions with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and now writes about health and wellness for various print and online publications. Amanda holds a MS in Health Communication from Emerson College and Tufts University School of Medicine, a collaborative program. She lives in the Boston area with her husband, son and a wildly precocious Jack Russell terrier.
Deanna Durica
Deanna Durica, MPH
As the Director of Health Education in settings from Alaska to Illinois, Deanna created curricula, established clinic protocols, and facilitated groups on reproductive health topics. She holds a MS in Public Health in maternal and child health from the University of Illinois, and currently works on children's issues at a leading policy agency in Chicago. When not advocating for the needs of young children, Deanna is busy with her husband raising their two-year-old son. Deanna loves Ethiopian food and visiting her public library.
Wendy Gammon
Wendy Gammon MA, MEd
Wendy has more than 15 years in medical education, working at Harvard Medical School, Boston University, Tufts and UMASS Medical School. With a BS and MS in Education and MA in English, she is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at UMASS Medical School. Wendy sits on committees at the National Board of Medical Examiners, developing and piloting test material for medical licensure exams. She has presented research in standardized patient methodology and simulation, and published articles in peer-reviewed academic journals. Wendy lives near Boston with her husband, daughter and five Siamese cats.
Stephen Gire
Stephen Gire, MPH
Stephen received his BS in Biology from Colorado State University while working in the virology department at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, where he researched vector-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus and Dengue Fever. He then joined the pediatrics department at Columbia University Medical Center, where he does research involving enzymatic cascades of neuronal cell death. Recently, Stephen received his MS in Public Health from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in health policy and management. Although Stephen loves living in New York City, he misses the Rockies every day.
Felisha Griffin
Felisha Griffin, MPH
Felisha has worked with lead investigators on several epidemiological studies, and recently worked as a research assistant in the Worldwide Epidemiology Department at GlaxoSmithKline. She holds a BS in Biology from North Carolina Central University and an MS in Public Health in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina. Currently, Felisha spends most of her time taking care of her three small children.
Brynn Kessler
Brynn Kessler, MS
Brynn started her career with a BS in Psychology and Neuroscience at Brandeis University. She's spent the past five years working on the cure for cancer, both as a lab researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital and a molecular/cellular biologist in the biotech industry. Currently, Brynn is working on her MS in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the New England School of Acupuncture, where she hopes to help conduct research that brings together the best of East and West as a comprehensive complimentary health-care system.

Jolyn is a freelance researcher, writer and editor on health and mental health/psychology topics. She is the author of six books and numerous magazine, Web and newspaper articles, occasionally ghost writes and writes for non-profits. She previously worked in mental health and allied care fields for 24 years. Her Ph.D. is on Health and Human Services and she has also has degrees in Social Work, Psychology and English.
Ajay Nair

Ajay received his MS in Public Health from Harvard University. Prior, he trained as a physician in India and has a range of experiences working with marginalized groups on issues related to sexual health and HIV/AIDS. Ajay has a deep interest in social and economic development and believes that good health is the key to a happy, successful life. Ajay has recently discovered his inner chef, managing to spice up and ruin every cuisine he has encountered.

Sarah O'Connor
A clinical researcher and high school biology teacher, Sarah has worked in the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, and for the Center for Microbial Risk Assessment. Sarah has managed animal study protocols, worked with patients in clinical trials, performed targeted cancer research and authored and reviewed articles peer-reviewed journals. Currently Sarah teaches high school AP Biology and works to educate the community on public health issues. Sarah holds a BS in Biology and Microbility from the University of New Hampshire.
Irina Ostrovsky-Day
Irina Ostrovsky-Day, MS
Irina is a preclinical research scientist, and has worked in medical device and pharmaceutical companies. She holds a BS in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and a MS in Biomedical Sciences from University of Massachusetts Medical School. She lives in Boston with her husband, and is currently involved in a neuroscience research project where she is exploring the mechanisms of addiction.
Dianne Rees
Dianne Rees, PhD
Dianne received a BA in Biology from New York University and a PhD from Indiana University for research on fruit fly genetics. She moved up the evolutionary ladder to study immune responses and development in mice at the University of New Mexico, where she was a Research Assistant Professor. Dianne then became a patent examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office, and later an attorney. She's practiced intellectual property law at biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and written patent applications on biotechnology, bioinformatics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and nanotechnology. Recently, Dianne founded her own communications company in San Diego, where she lives with a sheltie and a one-eyed cat.
Jody Simpson
Jody Simpson, MPH
During her 16 years in the dental health field and forensic sciences, Jody was deployed by the U.S. Public Health Service to work with the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT) and assisted in the identification of 9/11 victims in New York. In 2002, Jody earned her MS in Public Health in Epidemiology/Biostatistics from The George Washington University. She has participated in research supporting efforts by the Veteran’s Administration and Department of Defense to revise health care guidelines, and studied the oral health effects of cigarette smoking in American Indian populations as well as the health effects of electromagnetic radiation. Jody shares her life with her husband, two-year-old son and their Siberian huskies, Mick and Elvis.

Lesly earned her MS in Genetics and Developmental Biology from West Virginia University. After spending several years investigating natural compounds in cancer therapy, she now pursues a freelance writing career specializing in the intersection of biomedical science and technology. Lesly Anne lives in Houston with her husband and two parrots.

Usha Srinivasan, PhD
Usha has more than 10 years of research experience and has worked in diverse fields, including protein biochemistry, nanomaterials and virology. She has a PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York and has worked at the Salk Institute and the Scripps Research Institute. Usha aims to translate her passion for science and love of writing into a career in science writing. She also enjoys escaping to alternate universes in her favorite sci-fi books.

Edna applies her scientific expertise to a variety of science and medical multimedia projects including the PBS program NOVA and the ABC News Medical Unit. Currently Edna is a producer for a well-known video/television production company, developing science and technology museum exhibits. Edna holds a BS in Biology from MIT and a PhD in Cell Biology from the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program at Harvard University.
Vincent Tamuzza
Vincent Tamuzza, MD
Vincent received his BS in Biology from Boston College, where he worked in a neurobiology laboratory studying retinal structures. He went on to receive his MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and has now entered the biotechnology field, having worked for two major pharmaceutical companies in the past. He lives outside of Boston with his partner and their two miniature dachshunds.

While researching eating disorders among college-age women, Margarita wrote for peer-reviewed psychology journals, conducted psychotherapy, and presented research at professional conferences. Currently, she writes articles on everything from psychology topics to beauty and skin care. Margarita holds an MS in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a BS in Psychology from Florida State University. She lives in Florida and loves musicals and watching fashion makeover shows.

Emily enjoys the challenge of communicating complex health and science information to the general public. She lives near Boston with her husband, and loves to travel and experiment with healthy recipes.
Nigel Wall

Nigel has been working in the science field for more than 10 years. Her experience includes technical support services in molecular and cellular biology as well as research and clinical sciences. She’s researched Alzheimer’s Disease and Tuberculosis at Duke University and the measles virus at Johns Hopkins University. Nigel has assisted in several publications in various peer-reviewed journals. She earned a BS in Biology from Morgan State University and a MS in Biotechnology with a concentration in Biotechnology Enterprise from Johns Hopkins University. Originally from Maryland, Nigel now makes her home in North Carolina with her husband and 16-month-old son. She enjoys reading, running, walking, cooking and spending time with family.
